The morning after

Well, the voting started yesterday, continues today, and goes until tomorrow. What a beautiful allegory of God huh? I just laugh because (as Lindsey said) the entire United States of America can vote in 1 day but Biola takes 3! I'm not bitter, just ready to get on with my life, take this job on and get started doing stuff.

If you guys know anyone who hasn't voted please get them to the polls. This is the big day I think for determining the winner as tomorrow is not expected to be any kind of big deal.

The speeches went well yesterday. I felt VERY excited to share my vision during the first chapel and, even though I think I might have gotten a little bit too emotional, people seem to have been quite forgiving and generous. The second chapel was funny (most of you don't know this) because at about my 2 minutes to go point, Andrew Hartman held up a sign that said "30 seconds" and I freaked out. I tried to wind down my speech and for the next 30 seconds tried to appear like I had planned things this way. Then he grimaced, held up a different sign, and tried to act cool, but I was already done so I just said thanks and sat back down.

But man, I thought for sure I had really screwed up but everyone said they didn't even notice a thing... Maybe it was God... I don't know.

Props again to Bushido. They really did have some of the gnarliest ideas for next year and some of them might even need to be converted from "crazy" ideas to "good" ideas. Highlights of ideas that people have suggested to me over the last two weeks:

Lights for the Baseball field (duh... but maybe it's too much money)
Money for the lacrosse team
An RC model airplane flying club
A huge luau for all of Biola complete with a band, pig, and tiki-torches = sweet!
Soda in the drinking fountains (jk)
A larger, more-competitive dart league
More networking to produce cool videos for chapel (remember Ron Hafer in the Escalade?)
Spring banquet on the beach with wave-runners, surfing, and a concert at the end (cool=yes, possible=tough)

That's all for now. I'm sure I've got more. If you have ideas, submit them now!

Day - 6 late night platform

It's getting late, but I've been getting emails from people who would like to hear a little bit more about our positions and platform. To sum up very briefly what we're all about, I'll give 5 beliefs.

1. We believe that because Biola is a Christian University, we should have a dual emphasis in what we promote as AS - Pure Christianity and Scholarly Excellence.

2. We believe that Christianity should be developed in an exciting atmosphere that engages the whole person - both the mind and the body.

3. Concerts, interest clubs, and the arts alongside internships, competition, and scholarship is the best way to "give" to the student and overcome a feeling of being "taken" from.

4. Scholarship involves understanding every major's importance in the body of Christ and implies that there is no hierarchy of holiness amongst majors and not everyone is born to be a pastor.

5. Our experience in management, 6+ years of full-time Christian ministry, and an intense personal desire to have Biola live up to or exceed the amazing heritage we have received put Kevin and I in a unique position to step into the roll of leading AS.

Thank you to whoever has read this. Please vote on Monday and tell all your friends.

Raise other people's level of awareness to your level of concern and you will help win this election. Thanks

Day - 5 ? over. Day - 6

Well... here we are at last. Today is Saturday and the election is almost upon us. Yesterday Kevin and I went to Emerson, Hart, and Horton and feel pretty good about all of them. The main thing that we're doing now is trying to better understand what is at the heart of what Biola students feel AS should be. We still haven't written our speeches, but that's because we want to process everything we've heard and talk together before we finalize the rough draft we have now.

It's kind of funny that we got a little negative comment on the blog. Actually I think that's rad. Basically, democracy in action means that you are going to get people that don't like you yelling in your face. Well, that's unfortunate sometimes, but at least I know what people are thinking. If you want to know our whole campaign schedule and when we started planning you can BUBBS me or email me. Just to give ya'll a heads up though...

We have been planning, praying, and getting together since August 2004. Only a few days to go... let's finish strong.

Girls... another reason to vote for ME

We gotta find a way to work this photo

Day 4 - Push through the end

Well, last night went really well. Kevin and I and a small group of loyal friends (thanks guys you know who you are) had the chance to do some pretty serious campaigning hitting up Alpha, Stewart, and Emerson (only a bit). After that, Kevin talked to people walking around campus and I went to the Guerilla Film Society and listened to Mark Joseph speak on films and spoke to the people there, which went great!

The thing is, next year could be really fun. People always ask me why I want to run and I wish I could just say, "because of the incredible opportunity to enjoy life and make life more exciting". But that's not very serious I suppose...

The moral of the story is this, Kevin and I can do this job we just need your help to get people to think about why they are voting. I believe quite strongly that if you can have a conversation with people about our campaign most of them will end up voting for us. We have good plans, tangible goals, and plan to win. So help us win, talk to your friends about our ideas and let's make next year a year to remember and one that students care about.

Day 3 - Q & A went great!

Hey guys, it's been a whole day since the last post. Every day seems to go really slowly when you are campaigning. The debate/Q&A was last night and I am really excited about how that went. Kevin and I had a chance to answer some really good questions and share our heart for AS next year.

If anyone has any suggestions on what we should be addressing as AS Pres/Vice Pres please post comments or email us.

One question I have is this, What is the most important thing to accomplish with our speech (to the student body) on monday?

Day 1... let's roll

This is a picture of my wife - Megan (this is Christof). Kevin is definitely still single.

It is a crazy thing to be writing but campaign week is finally upon us - here we go. Kevin is at school right now putting up our first 15 stakes. We worked on them last night, planned out our week, and my wife baked M & E cookies. What a cool thing that my accountant wife also loves to cook.

I am about to leave to pick up our banner. It is really big and should give us a good presence on campus. Even though a lot of people seem to think we have an edge, we really have a lot of work to do.

One of the big things that we are planning to do is visit every dorm room on campus, that starts tonight! I am also planning on visiting the dart club tonight and possibly even one other club. If you have a club and you wouldn't mind letting Kevin or myself come to your meeting we would love to explain our vision or just answer questions. Alternatively, you could pelt us with vegetables, call us names, whatever. We are here to serve.
